This textbook was required for a partial differential equation course I am taking. The instructor is just okay. This textbook however is saving the day. The author does an excellent job in laying out the basis for PDE's and showing the basic derivations and analysis techniques. Probably the only thing that is lacking is more solved examples. The exercises in the book are just okay. Like most textbooks, the exercises don't slowly build on each concept, but instead expect the student to quickly apply what was discussed in the relevant section. Anyone expecting to self-study out of this book had better be comfortable with ordinary differential equations first.I suspect the author (Haberman) is probably one of those instructors your rarely run into that can make a subject such as this a real pleasure to study.
